  1. Airport Appearance. The appearance of the Airport for the Community Day and Air Show on September 21 was excellent and outstanding. The FBO are to be commended for their hard work.
  2. Fertilizer. Approximately 130 tons of lime has been spread with 95 tons more to go on the south end of the field.
  3. Storm Drain Project/Erosion. A meeting is scheduled with BCI regarding the storm drain project. Mr. Oliver and Mr. Dailey reported reviewing the erosion problems at the Airport by driving the perimeter and conditions are reported to be poor at best.
  4. Map. The large map of the Airport was framed and hung in the Terminal Building Conference Room. The printing and framing cost was minimal. Thank you to Mr. Johnnie Fryman for his donation of labor on the framing. A thank you letter will be sent to Mr. Fryman.

Mr. Laferty, Communications and Security Chairman, reported security was good at the Community Day and Air Show on September 21. Smoking was an issue so an announcement was made over the loudspeaker that smoking was not allowed near the hangars. Future events should announce that there is no smoking allowed on Airport grounds. Mr. James reported that the Farmers/MMRC Volunteer Fire Department provided security help and was present at the Friday rehearsal, the Saturday Air Show, and again on Sunday at the EAA Young Eagle rides and should be commended for help.

Mr. Laferty indicated there was no update on the AWOS frequency application from Brandstetter Carroll, Inc. A call was made to the FAA on August 28, 2013. The application for the AWOS is on file.

Mr. Stinson, Community Day and Air Show Co-Chair, reported on the status of the September 21, 2013 event. Thank you letters to the sponsors and volunteers were passed around for each Board Member to sign. Debriefing: Everything went smoothly this year.

The FAA was very pleased. Parking organization was very good. We may want to skip a year or every five years in organizing such a large event. At some other airports (example: Montgomery County Airport), the Experimental Aircraft Association is in charge of their air show. Volunteer efforts have been a challenge for our event each year also. The Morehead Tourism Commission may be interested in combining a July 4th event with an air show. Mr. Gray and all Board Members acknowledged that Mr. Stinson did a great job as Air Boss this year.

Mr. Brandstetter reviewed project updates.

  • AWOS Project. BCI received approval of the form 854 on August 16 and submitted Form 601 on August 28. BCI spoke with a representative at the FCC and confirmed the submission process. They indicated there were no red flags with the application. There was no estimated time of completion of the process. After the license is obtained, the contractor maintenance employee will complete the project.
  • T-Hangar Project. The FAA got grant application back. Pre-construction meeting is scheduled for October 3rd. Joe Carter from KDA will attend. The State application will be submitted after questions regarding the multi-year funding were posed to Craig Farmer. Construction schedule shall be finalized with pre-con meeting. The T-Hangar project is a multi-year project with funds for FY 14 available in October. A ground breaking ceremony will be held sometime after the pre-construction meeting.
  • Runway Storm Improvements. A summary of the needed improvements at each location will be compiled and bid documents will be prepared. The summary report from the USDA was received at the August meeting and BCI was provided a copy of the cover letter. A field walk was scheduled for September 23, but was rescheduled to September 30th with the Building and Grounds Committee.
  • Other Items: BCI has prepared cost estimate for pavement markings and crack sealing per FAA request. BCI will send estimate to James Williams for review.
