REPORTS
Tracey Potter gave a report on the status of the FBO and Airport activities. She advised the status of fuel sales, grounds maintenance, and hangar activities.
Ms. Potter reported that fuel sales for the month of April were 1,833 gallons of 100LL and 2,097 gallons of JETA fuel. An order for another 5,500 gallons of 100LL was placed. The balance of remaining fuel is 1,606 gallons of 100LL and 3,477 gallons of JETA fuel.

Ms. Potter reported that fertilizer was spread on areas that were matted last year and weed killer was sprayed along the fence lines.
Ms. Potter reported plans for another Pancake and Sausage Breakfast on Saturday, June 1.
Ms. Potter reported that the Color Run (UNITE 5K Run) went well with over 200 participants.
Ms. Potter reported that the Airport has been very busy with transient aircraft coming through for fuel and had several use the courtesy car and stay overnight at area motels. In some cases, the FBO have offered their personal vehicles for use by Airport visitors. An additional vehicle may need to be acquired to help with transportation. In addition, two Mustangs were here for fuel on the way to Charlotte, NC, for a NASCAR race.
Ms. Potter reported that participants in the Kentucky Airport Challenge will again be visiting the Airport. The Challenge will run from July 1 – September 30 with the awards being given on October 5 in Tompkinsville.
Ms. Potter reported that an area woman’s book collection of grandfather’s aviation technical writings has been published. Barbara Sellers, a native of Grayson, KY, has documented her grandfather’s (Matthew B. Sellers) journey through his 1908 invention of the retractable landing gear and Kentucky’s first powered flight. The recently released book “The Technical Writings of Matthew B. Sellers – Aviation Pioneer/Technical Editor Aeronautics Magazine 1908-1915” contains information about the many artifacts which are in the Smithsonian Museum. Ms. Sellers recently had book signings in the area. For more information, visit matthewbsellers.com.

Dr. Derrickson, Buildings & Grounds Co-Chair, reported that one of the goals of the Buildings and Grounds Committee is to get the hay to a point where funds will be received for cut hay on the property and an agreement be executed to fertilize the area. This year one cut has been made. We could receive a small amount of income from an agreement. In this manner, the Airport can receive income and reduce our maintenance costs for fuel and maintenance of our equipment. With the remaining land, our two tractors can easily cut and maintain the areas. Mr. Potter reported that an inquiry had been made regarding the south field and planting soybeans. It is suggested that an ad be placed in the newspaper next year and request bids for use of the land.
Dr. Derrickson reported that a gravity fed diesel tank has not been located for purchase yet.
Mr. Stinson, Community Day and Air Show Co-Chair, reported on plans for the 2013 event. A potential itinerary was presented for review for the September 21, 2013 event. Activities may begin at 12:30 PM and conclude at 4:00 PM. A Radio Controlled Air Show may be added this year before the scheduled events. Due to limited funds, the Black Hawk helicopter and many military displays will not be available.
Morehead Tourism Commission representatives Mr. Kappes and Ms. Brown suggested that Tourism could make available a Community Day/Air Show budget of $5,000 to incorporate advertising on local television stations. The Morehead Arts and Eats Festival will be held on the same day. Mr. Stinson will coordinate with the Commission on times for both events and advertising perhaps coordinated to include both events. The Airport will have a booth at the Festival. Morehead State University also has a Family Weekend scheduled September 20-22. Advertising and links on each website would promote the entire area. Mr. Oliver asked Mr. Kappes if Tourism had other funding available to help underwrite the expenses of the show.
Mr. Laferty, Communication and Security Chair, is monitoring the progress of the AWOS project with the FAA and licensure.
Mr. Brandstetter reported on two projects.
- AWOS Project. The FAA (Mike Thompson, our Progress Manager) has confirmed through emails that they did receive information regarding the appropriate Study Number on May 29.
