REPORTS
Tracey Potter gave a report on the status of the FBO and Airport activities. She advised the status of fuel sales, grounds maintenance, and hanger activities.
Ms. Potter reported that fuel sales for the month of January were 806 gallons of 100LL and 1,976 gallons of JETA fuel with over 1,300 gallons being pumped from the fuel truck. We received another 6,067 gallons of JETA fuel. The balance of remaining fuel is 7,156 gallons of 100LL and 4,100 gallons of JETA fuel.
Ms. Potter reported that the monthly community hangar report includes PHI Helicopter – $300; Josh Smith – $150, and Kevin Mays – $150, for a total of $600.
Ms. Potter reported that the strobe at the end of runway 20 was repaired.
Ms. Potter reported plans for another Pancake and Sausage Breakfast on March 2.
Ms. Potter reported on ways to promote the airport.
- Continue with the first Saturday of the month pancake breakfasts.
- Encourage any community events be held here.
- Keep our fuel prices as low as possible to promote traffic count.
- Participating in a Geocaching activity.
Suggestions for promoting the airport are welcomed.
Mr. Brandstetter reported on the two active projects.
- AWOS Project. AWI (AWOS Supplier) will be on-site in March to complete the AWOS system installation. Data will be gathered and will be available for access. AWI is providing FAA with data for the licensing process. Once frequency has been provided, AWI will complete the Commissioning Process.
- T-Hangar Construction. Mr. Tony Hardin met with the Buildings and Grounds Committee this week and went over the project in further detail. Some edits are being made to address comments and then the project will be advertised for bid. Among the project edits include a water line run to the new T-Hangar building for outside use. Funding will be federal (90%), state 7.5%, and Airport 2.5%. Per the FAA the FY 2013 AIP funds are not 100% authorized at this time. Once authorized total AIP funding for the project will be $584,172 resulting in total project funding being $649,080. If the project bid and associated fees exceed this amount the Board would need to borrow the additional funds until the 2014 AIP funding is authorized. We may also have to delay the award of a bid until the 2013 AIP funds are fully authorized as well.
Dr. Derrickson, Buildings & Grounds Co-Chair, reported that the Buildings and Grounds Handbook is ready to distribute.
Dr. Derrickson reported that soil samples have been taken and the information will be ready soon. The results will tell us how much fertilizer is needed in areas. The last time the area was fertilized was two years ago. We have 284 acres with 150 acres fenced. Fifty acres may need to be fertilized this year.
Dr. Derrickson reported that Mr. James is preparing maps for the airport showing the different and access roads.
Mr. Laferty reported on the new identifying airport letters which will be submitted once the AWOS is installed. The letters SYM have been reserved for the Airport.
OLD BUSINESS
Mr. Stinson reported on the 2013 Community Day and Air Show. A budget has been developed with Dr. Fossett, for $15,250. Smoke oil will not need to be purchased due to existing stock. Inflatables and balloons should not be contracted due to safety and cost factors. Parking volunteers are needed. Donations will be requested before the deadline of May 1. The event should not be held unless funds are secured before this date. The Committee will accept support from area businesses to help make the event viable.
Mr. Stinson presented ideas for raising revenue including selling program ads; a $5/carload charge would include a program; banners on fences; and ad space in the program could also be sold. The motion to approve the budget of $15,250 for the Community Day and Airshow on September 21, 2013, contingent upon raising funds by May 1st, was made by Mr. Click, seconded by Dr. Derrickson, and approved unanimously.
