REPORTS
- Garver Report: Mr. Mittlesteadt.
- Emergency Runway and Taxiway Repairs. ?KDA has approved a $300,000 grant for us to make safety repairs to the runway and taxiway. Before proceeding with the design, Mr. Middlesteadt indicated that a geotechnical analysis of core samples taken from the runway is needed. Mr. Middlesteadt recommended that we contract with L.E. Gregg Associates, a geotechnical firm, to conduct the analysis. The core sampling will take one day and will require that the runway to be closed during this time. Mr. Middlesteadt will be present. Mr. James signed a contract with L.E. Gregg Associates to conduct the analysis. They may be able to conduct the procedure next week. A NOTAM announcing the runway closure will be coordinated with the FBO. Mr. Middlesteadt also discussed the requirements for advertising and the bid process, and the need to move rather quickly to ensure completion before weather conditions interfere with paving operations. Mr. James commended Mr. Middlesteadt and Garver for their assistance in applying and receiving emergency funding from the state for this project.
- Trench Drain.?There is no funding from KDA at this point. We will have surveyor’s data when the money is identified.
- 2014 T-Hangar Grant Project.? Mittlesteadt is assisting with close out of the 2014 T-Hangar project. The Department of Aviation has received the request for the final state match.
- FBO. Ms. Potter reported on the status of current fuel sales, grounds maintenance, and hangar activities.
- July fuel sales were 1583 gallons of 100LL and 3750 gallons of JETA fuel.
- Eastern Aviation Shell came for the annual inspection of the fuel farm and fuel trucks. They replaced all filters and had us replace the JETA single point hose and also some dust ?covers on fuel nozzles.
- We have had several new students start flying lessons with a total of 7 primary students ?right now.
- The driveway to the residence needs gravel and at the same time there is a need for a ?gravel parking area for trailers and extra vehicles.
- At some point it would be nice to put an automatic gate in at the drive going back to the ?trailer and t-hangars. This would cut down on traffic going across the ramp. We get a lot ?of gravel and debris on the ramp from vehicles.
- The River City Ashland SCCA Autocross was held on August 15 which went well.
- The Gravity Falls Wings and Wheels event for September 5 has been cancelled due to ?scheduling conflicts.
- We had to replace the PTO (power train) for the Rhino batwing mower and did an oil ?change on the Kubota tractor and John Deere ZTrac mower. We also sharpened the blades ?on the Rhino.
- We are starting to bush hog the rest of the grass inside and outside the fence areas.
- The next Pancake and Sausage Breakfast will be September 5. ?3. Buildings & Grounds. Dr. Derrickson and Mr. Oliver, Co-Chairs, updated activities.
- Hay Contract. Dr. Derrickson reported that hay has been cut, and the next mowing is being planned. It is advised that a hay contract be pursued for at least 3-5 years. ?Manure will be spread later in the year.
- Equipment Storage. In order to protect our equipment assets, storing them in ?protected areas is advised. The Rhino batwing mower, John Deere ZTrac mower, and Kubota tractor need to be stored in a building or hangar end storage unit. The committee will evaluate the suitability of existing hangar space (end storage units) for this purpose. Dr. Derrickson and Mr. Oliver will consider possible locations for a gravel park lot for airport and tenant vehicles and trailers.
- Entrance Tractor/Trailer Damage. A large tractor/trailer came to the airport by missing a turnoff on Hwy 801. There is damage near the parking lot entrance which involved deep ruts and grass displacement. Magistrate Darrell Glover has turned in the trailer damage to the county road department for repair. We have extra seed and mats to repair. In addition, Mr. Dailey spoke with Judge Executive Blevins today about the matter.
- Communications and Security. Mr. James reported no communication or security issues. Mr. James appointed Mr. Roberts as Communications and Security Chairperson. He will work with David Campbell and Ms. Marsh, to review and revise content to make the airport website (https://www.mrcairport.org) more attractive. Mr. James requested that Mr. Clark assist Mr. Roberts and the FBO regarding updates and liaison to the FAA, NOTAMS, NOAA, etc. ?5. River City Ashland SCCA. The River City Sports Car Club of America held an autocross at the airport on August 15, 2015. The agreement with the group was to hold one event and evaluate. The concern was the benefit to the airport and any inconvenience to hangar tenants or airport activity. A polling of hangar tenants has not been done. There were approximately 12 participants with approximately 20 spectators. The time frame is usually 8 hours (8-4pm) on a Saturday. The FBO reported no adverse effects. Our airport is in the Lexington SCCA area which allows an SCCA chapter to do one charity event per year. That charity is the Shriner’s Childrens Hospital. When enough advertising is done, local competitors will have a chance to enter the autocross events. The group would like to hold 8 autocross/road rallys a year, April- November. A concern mentioned was incoming large planes which would need to park in the ramp area where the autocross is held. With the arrival of a large plane the autocross would have to cease operations for the day. The motion to allow the River City Ashland SCCA to hold three events (through November) was made by Mr. Oliver, seconded by Mr. Clark, and approved unanimously. Additional events will require approval of the board. Mr. Rogers will provide a contract for the airport.

The motion to approve the Resolution honoring Mr. Laferty was made by Dr. Mattingly, second by Dr. Derrickson, and approved unanimously.
