$437,620 Apron Reconstruction and Drainage Improvement Project

The Morehead-Rowan County Airport Board is pleased to announce the funding for an Apron Reconstruction and Drainage Improvement Project at the Airport. ASL Excavating, Flemingsburg, KY will perform the project which is scheduled to begin in mid-September. Garver, the Airport’s Engineer of Record, designed the project and will oversee implementation. The total project scope of $437,620 includes all engineering, bidding and contractor costs.

The project was identified in the Airport’s Capital Improvement Plan submitted to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 2017. The project is funded by the FAA, State, and the Airport Board. The FAA funding will be $330,000, state funding, including its match of the FAA funds and its commitment to cover cost overruns, will be approximately $98,000. The Airport’s local match will be approximately $9,200.

Tim James, Airport Board Chair, said “It took a couple of years to get this project’s final approval and funding to correct the deteriorating drainage conditions around the original set of T-Hangars. However, with the efforts and support of our engineers, the FAA regional leadership in Memphis and the KY Department of Aviation, the funding was provided and the problem will soon be corrected. Our local match to any FAA funded project is possible because of the City and County’s financial support and investment in our Airport.”
